A Passion for Performance
It's 6am in the morning, there's a chill in the air as the training cen tre is opened. 10 minutes later a team of young performers are sweating profusely, as they learn the steps to a new routine. These enthusiastic athletes are practising the 1500 year old art of lion dancing from China. These performers are drawn in by the distinctive drumbeat , colourful costumes and flamboyant moves. One of the lion dancers informs me it takes three years to master the basics of the art. Another tells me that the movements need to be drilled thousands of times to capture the spirit of the lion.
